MAX LIFT cam for 5hp flathead b4 coil bind and or valve head contact?

~.350"? MAX LIFT? with stock springs n with minimal cleaning up of inside of head for valve clearance? aftermarket springs that can deal with ~.350" cam? with stock head gasket.

Stock head depth is slightly more than .300.

Add head gasket thickness.

Can be more if valves are sunk below gasket surface.

GASKET IS .06". stock head depth is .3. and the little bit that the valves sunk in the head. ~.350" ok...

coil spring coil bind?

Depends on the spring.

Each spring will have a recommended install height and coil bind height.

This is adjusted by cutting spring pockets, using longer valves, or keepers with different heights. Gotta watch valve guide heights to make sure there is clearance.

Cam grinder should have a recommended package, but you will still need to check clearances.

For drop in setups, stock appearing cams usually have only .290 lift.

Edit, should say cheater stock cams.

Unless the deck has been cut extremely hard (same with head) you should be easily able to fit a .315" lift in without valve relieving the head.
That's what that lift cam was designed for.
Of course, once you start machining, all bets are off...it's so easy to lay up some Play-Dough or modeling clay between two pieces of Saran Wrap, it's always better to be safe than sorry.

I noticed that the 22# PREDATOR springs are same OD as briggs springs but the 212cc springs have fewer coils so less chance of coil bind?

Weld my own cam bumps. The lifter clearance in motor seems to be an issue? Not much room til lifter runs into lifter boss? Like very very little room for more lift before lifter runs into lifter boss. How to remove material of lifter boss to clear lifters, without spending a day with dremel grinding away material, with for bigger lift cam. Id like to go ~.350" lift. Hopefully not have to clearance head???

You can use a back-facing tool with a long pilot down through the valve guide and lifter bore.
You can also mill it with the side of an endmill or hit it with a die grinder or an angle grinder if you like.

.350" lift will not fit without spot-facing the head for valve reliefs.

Ok .350"+ lift wont work... without clearancing the head. Seen pix of that done. Very nice work too. A flat bottom mill bit the size of valve head.

How much material out of head in valve reliefs to make valves clear head?... Until valves dont hit head? With an extra .100" to spare?
